The SDSU All-Star Big Band, with special guest trumpeter Bobby Shew, will be a featured performer at the Ocean Beach Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, Sept. 11. Conducted by Bill Yeager, the band performs on the Anthology Main Stage at 4:15 p.m.

Band members include current students and alumni from the jazz studies program. Yeager noted that members in the band range from alumni from 1977 to current students—a span of 33 years!

As one of the premier programs in the United States, the SDSU jazz curriculum regularly attracts the finest talent in the country and from abroad. The jazz studies program offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees, and strives to reinforce the integral value of music in society. The program recently released its new CD, Thought Trains, on ACM Records.

Bobby Shew spends a considerable amount of time actively involved in the educational system, conducting clinics and master classes at high schools and college campuses all over the world. He has appeared several times as a guest artist on campus, performing with the SDSU Jazz Ensemble.
