Aztecs Illuminate 1935 Expo

Decades Ago at San Diego State: The university participates in the 1935 California Pacific Exposition.

The May 15, 1935, issue of the State College Aztec announced the exhibition of San Diego State College lantern slides at the 1935 California Pacific Exposition in Balboa Park's Palace of Education.

The slide show, which used a Bal-Opticon lantern, a type of early slide projector, ran continuously at the exposition and promoted the college’s academic achievements and activities. The slides included images of college events, activities and classes.

Besides being featured at the Palace of Education, San Diego State College students worked at many of the exposition's attractions — they were even allowed to take their examinations early in order to accommodate their exposition work schedules

Special Collections and University Archives' University Archives Photograph Collection contains the original lantern slides used at the 1935 California Pacific Exposition.
