Celebrating International Women's Day

SDSU's Women's Studies department presents a lecture from prominent sociology professor, Kum Kum Bhavani on March 8.

In celebration of International Women's Day, San Diego State University's Women's Studies department Femininist Research Colloquia series will host a prominent guest speaker, Kum Kum Bhavani on March 8.

The department hosts the monthly series to provide a platform for discussion of ongoing research in women's studies.

Each month, scholars from all over the world with an expertise in women's studies visit San Diego State University to present their research.  Additionally, SDSU professors and faculty present their conference papers and highlight projects they are engaged in.  

This year's theme is Gender, Conflict and the Environment: Visionary Transnational Communities.  

About the event

The lecture will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., March 8, in Arts and Letters room 201.

The event is free and open to the public.  It is suggested that you arrive early, as seating may be limited.

About Bhavani

Bhavnani is a sociology professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research interests lie within development, feminist and cultural studies. She has published a number of books and articules, including "Taling Politics," "Shifting Identities Shifting Racisms," "Feminism and 'Race'" and "Feminist Futures."
