Acting deans were selected for both the College of Business Administration and the College of Education at San Diego State University, while searches are ongoing to fill those vacant positions.
Gangaram Singh will serve as acting dean of the College of Business Administration and Joe Johnson will serve the same role at the College of Education.

About Singh
Singh has been the associate dean of the college for the past three years and was previously the chair of management, the department he joined as a faculty member in 1999.
Singh's research includes three broad areas: issues of an aging workforce, international employment relations and innovations of human resource management and collective bargaining. In recognition of his excellence, he has received funds for his research from the Department of Labor, the Barber Fund and the Taiwan Cost Management Institute.
He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in Industrial Relations and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles in this discipline since coming to SDSU.
Singh will begin his appointment, replacing departed Dean Michael Cunningham as acting dean on June 1, 2013.
About Johnson

Joe Johnson
Johnson has a distinguished record of leadership roles within school districts, state education agencies and the U.S. Department of Education.
Johnson joined the College of Education in 2005 as a professor of educational leadership and executive director of the National Center for Urban School Transformation.
There, he leads efforts to identify, study and promote the best practice of high-performing urban schools and districts. As a member of the Education Leadership faculty, he helps develop and teach programs designed to prepare effective school and district leaders.
Johnson earned a Ph.D. from the University of Texas.
Johnson will begin serving as acting Dean on July 1, immediately following Dean Hovda’s retirement, and will continue until the arrival of a permanent dean.
