Officially in 1976 by President Gerald R. Ford, Black History Month has since been a time to reflect and celebrate the significant roles played by African Americans in U.S. history.
To celebrate the rich history of the African American community, San Diego State University will host a multitude of events during February.
"It is important for the university to honor the culture, traditions and history of the African American community," said Aaron Bruce, SDSU's chief diversity officer.
Events will be held at the Aztec Student Union and in the Center for Intercultural Relations. All events are free and open to the public.
