The acclaimed San Diego State University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Bill Yeager, will perform in concert with special guest jazz vocalist Sunny Wilkinson on Thursday, April 16, at 5 and 7 p.m. at Smith Recital Hall.

“Sunny Wilkinson has long been one of my favorite jazz singers,” Yeager said.  “Not only am I a fan, but I had the good fortune of performing on one of her outstanding recordings entitled 'High Wire.' She is a one-of-a-kind artist, and always a show-stopper. An unbelievable talent!”

About Sunny Wilkinson

Over her three-decade career, Wilkinson has sung with many music icons, including The Count Basie Orchestra, Rob McConell and the Boss Brass, Clark Terry, Mark Murphy and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra in their POP series.

Her latest CD, "When Sunny Meets Tom," a duo project with Los Angeles based pianist Tom Garvin, has been lauded as “…truly extraordinary” by Worlds Records.

In addition to an impressive performance career, Wilkinson has also made significant contributions in jazz education serving as past president of the Michigan chapter of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) and the past chairperson for IAJE’s Women’s Caucus. She is also the co-founder of IAJE's Sisters in Jazz mentoring program.
