As one of the most LGBT-friendly campuses in the United States, San Diego State University is committed to creating a safe, inclusive space for all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.

To celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities in our community, SDSU will host the 8th-annual Rainbow Flag Raising Ceremony in conjunction with San Diego Pride. An SDSU delegation will also participate in the San Diego Pride Parade.

Rainbow Flag Raising

For the last eight years, SDSU has hosted a Rainbow Flag Raising ceremony to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities as well as the diversity of sexual orientation and gender identities  at SDSU. This year, the event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on July 15 at the Aztec Student Union flagpole.

“With the variety of campus resources like our preferred name options available through the Registrar's Office and our upcoming Pride House learning community, we have much to be proud of regarding our work supporting the inclusion of everyone on our campus, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity,” said Anthony Keen, coordinator of The Pride Center at SDSU. He added, “as we celebrate this progress, we must remember that we have much more work to do, particularly as we consider the intersections of identity and supporting all students, staff, and faculty on campus.”

The event is free and open to the public.

San Diego Pride Parade

The San Diego Pride Parade will be held on the morning of Saturday, July 18, in Hillcrest. This year the parade theme is Liberty and Justice for All.

In order to walk with the SDSU contingent, participants must sign up online and sign a waiver and photo release. Completed, signed forms can be sent to The Pride Center via email or be hand delivered to The Pride Center. Participants may sign up until the day before the parade via the online form. For more information, please contact The Pride Center at 619-594-3520.

Pride Parade T-shirts will be available on campus in July. In order to receive a T-shirt participants must be registered and have a signed copy of the waiver and photo release form ready to submit.
