New Student Orientation serves as a foundation for students as they make the transition to San Diego State University.

During New Student Orientation, the SDSU Marketing and Communications team asked incoming students and their parents to share some of the reasons why they chose SDSU.

The university offers bachelor's degrees in 95 areas, master's degrees in 78 areas and doctorates in 22 areas. Students participate in research, international experiences, sustainability and entrepreneurship initiatives, internships and mentoring, and a broad range of student life and leadership opportunities. 

The university’s rich campus life features opportunities for students to participate in, and engage with, the creative and performing arts, a Division I athletics program and the vibrant cultural life of the San Diego region.

SDSU has been recognized as a top school for the number of students who study abroad, its support of LGBTQ students and its commitment to diversity

SDSU also continues to be one of the most sought-after colleges in the nation, having received a record-setting 93,610 undergraduate applications for fall 2018. This was the third consecutive year SDSU has received more than 80,000 undergraduate applications and the first time applications have topped 90,000.
