On Sunday, Oct. 21, the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance will perform a free
Chamber Music Showcase featuring the top student ensembles representing the university’s string, piano, wind and brass chamber music programs. The concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Downtown Central Library.
The performance, in the Central Library’s Neil Morgan Auditorium, will feature student chamber ensembles performing with the Westwind Brass and the Hausmann Quartet, SDSU’s Ensemble in Residence.
“In chamber music study, leadership, responsibility, cooperation, and collaboration are cultivated in a setting where each performer plays a different musical instrument without relying on the leadership of a conductor,” said Isaac Allen, a founding member of the Hausmann Quartet.
The collaboration between the SDSU School of Music and Dance and the Downtown Central Library provides an opportunity to provide learning experiences to students, as well as serve as a community resource.
The program features chamber music repertoire spanning several centuries and is a celebration of SDSU’s strong commitment to the art of chamber music.
“This performance is a showcase of the work that our students put into their journey to become not only great musical performers, but also artistic leaders and critical thinkers,” said Allen.
The Downtown Central Library is located at 330 Park Blvd., San Diego. Admission to the event is free.
