San Diego State University Global Campus has been selected as an education partner for Amazon’s Career Choice, providing its hourly employees access to a range of SDSU degree-completion programs offered online from anywhere in the world.

“We were very excited when Amazon reached out to us to be their first Career Choice partner in the San Diego region,” said Casey Rothenberger, executive director of academic and professional programs for SDSU Global Campus. “This partnership allows SDSU and Amazon to provide increased access to a bachelor’s degree for the thousands of Amazon employees in our region.”

As a full-time or part-time Amazon Associate, employees are eligible for aid after 90 days of employment. Through Career Choice, Amazon will pay up to $5,250 per year towards an employee’s college tuition, fees, textbooks, and other related expenses. Amazon employees can visit the Amazon Career Choice portal for information.

Amazon’s Career Choice program provides education and upskilling opportunities which include full college tuition, industry certifications designed to lead to in-demand jobs, and foundational skills such as English language, high school diplomas, and GEDs.

More than 50,000 Amazon employees worldwide have already joined the company’s Career Choice program since it was launched in 2012, officials said.

“We're looking forward to seeing participation continue to increase in the coming months as even more employees take advantage of this important benefit,” said Tammy Thieman, global program lead of Amazon's Career Choice program.”

Global Campus degree programs are offered fully online or hybrid with some in-person components, giving students flexibility in how, when, and where they learn.

The bachelor’s degree completion programs can help students finish their four-year undergraduate degree in a way that works for their schedules. Students also can build on their existing academic experience by using the credits they’ve already earned to jumpstart their SDSU education without starting over.

Global Campus offers an opportunity to complete bachelor’s degrees in:

  • Business Administration

  • Criminal Justice

  • Economics

  • Public Health

  • Civil Engineering

  • Communication

  • Child Development

  • Computer Engineering (coming fall 2023)
