The Aztec women's basketball team (23-10) will host UC Irvine (24-6) Friday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the WNIT.
SDSU, who is making their first postseason appearance in 10 years, boasted the best defense in the Mountain West. The Aztecs tied for third in the conference and have won 23 games, both of which are the program's best since the 2012-13 season.

The Anteaters won the Big West regular season championship after going 16-2. They then were upset in the quarterfinals of the Big West Tournament, losing to the No. 9 seed Cal State Bakersfield 61-59 in double overtime.
SDSU is 21-8 all-time vs. UC Irvine but have split their last four meetings. They last played Nov. 14, 2021, a 68-60 Aztec win in Irvine.
If the Aztecs win, they will face the winner of Long Beach State and San Diego who play Thursday night at USD.
This is the 13th time that SDSU has played in the postseason and third time they have played in the WNIT.

The Aztecs advanced to the 1989 WNIT championship game after wins over Radford (99-92, 2 OT) and Murray State (97-81). SDSU lost in the championship game to Oregon 67-64.

The Aztecs' last WNIT appearance was 2013 where they beat UC Santa Barbara 69-46 at home before losing at BYU 69-58.

Tickets are free for students, $7 for general admission, $10 for reserved and $25 for courtside.
