Valentine’s Day Luncheon
 
Seventy-eight SDSU Retirement Association members attended the annual Valentine’s Day luncheon at the Bali Hai restaurant. It was one of the largest crowds yet and the association filled 10 tables. 

The weather was beautiful and perfect with a tremendous view enhanced by the Bali Hai’s recent multi-million dollar renovation. Donations to win the table centerpieces netted $427.00 for the scholarship fund. Next year's Valentine's Day luncheon will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2011.
 
Student scholarship applications closed
 
The Scholarship committee, chaired by Joan Curry, professor emeritus in the School of Teacher Education, will begin evaluating the 34 applications received this year. In order to qualify, applicants must be a relative of an active or retired SDSU employee and have a GPA of 2.75.
 
Recent board of directors meeting

At the last meeting, the SDSU Retirement Association board of directors discussed the following items:

• Newsletters from other CSU and Emeritus and Retirement Faculty Association retirement groups are now available to read in the RA office, AD-225.
• An apparent conflict has arisen between theassociation's 25th anniversary luncheon and the farewell reception for President Stephen L. Weber on April 14. Members should note that there will be plenty of time to attend both events, as the luncheon at Carleton Oaks Golf Course will end at 2 p.m., while the Weber reception begins at 3:30 p.m. at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center.
• Terry O’Donnell, professor emeritus in the School of Theatre, Television and Film, announced that there will be carillon tours every half hour from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Explore SDSU Open House on March 19.
• Tom Donahue, professor emeritus of linguistics and SDSU Retirement Association benefits and ERFA representative, reported on the concern about declining revenue for the CalPERS fund as lawmakers consider changes in financing and pay-in programs for new hires. 
• The association's web master, Pat Coffey, retired, College of Business Administration, continues to post new and updated event information to the calendar on the SDSU Retirement Association website.
