Future Forward February 2018

Future Forward February -- Your Career Prep Month

With February being an important time to engage in leadership and service opportunities, several San Diego State University departments have partnered to host a series of events to help students find their passion and purpose. Called “Future Forward February,” and established by SDSU’s Career Services, Student Life & Leadership and other campus partners, the series will help students become better prepared to place in internships and jobs while expanding their networks.

The month-long campaign kicks off Jan. 28 with the “Suit-Up Event,” to be held at the Fashion Valley JC Penney, 7007 Friars Road. JC Penney will open 6:30-9:30 p.m. to SDSU students, offering an extra 40 percent off men’s and women’s career dress apparel and shoes.

Other events to be held in February are:

  • Jan. 29-Feb. 3: The “Compact Scholars Be HIP! EXPO” is a week of campus activities designed to highlight student engagement. Event details are registration are available online: tinyurl.com/behip2018
  • Feb. 10: The “2018 Diversity Career Forum” will be held 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Montezuma Hall. Under the theme of “Connecting to Community: Growing Your Career Network,” students will build relationships with employers and other SDSU students to unleash the potential of their diverse backgrounds.
  • Feb. 14-15: The Spring Career and Internship Fair, to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Montezuma Hall, will offer opportunities to connect with organizations offering jobs and internships. An employer section focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) will be featured on the first day.
  • Feb. 17: The SDSU Leadership Summit conference, to be held at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union, will center on the topic of failure and success, providing students with tips on how to achieve success even after experiencing failure and/or setbacks while building perseverance and resilience.
  • Feb. 23-24: The SDSU Dance Marathon will be held 6 p.m. - 9 a.m. at Montezuma Hall. The dance will raise money to cover medical costs for families, upgrades for playrooms, new technology purchases and also toys, decorations and other amenities in support of the patients at Rady Children’s Hospital.
