EMPLOYMENT
for International Students

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT Employment

International students in F-1 and J-1 status, find information about
working and interning at SDSU and off campus.

Before you can work or do a paid internship, you must obtain a Social Security Number (SSN). This is for tax purposes and does not authorize you to work. Learn about paying taxes on your earnings.

There are many opportunities for finding work on campus. The ISC encourages newly arrived international students to wait until they have adjusted to life at SDSU before they seek on-campus employment.

Working off campus or doing an internship off campus without authorization from the ISC and the U.S. government is illegal and could result in the loss of your student visa. It is important that you read all the information that applies to you and your visa status before you begin any off-campus job or internship in the U.S.
