Closed Captioning for Multimedia
If you plan to show any films or videos in your course this semester, and you have a deaf or hard-of-hearing student registered in your class, these materials must be captioned to provide equal access for the student.
Student Ability Success Center, in coordination with Instructional Technology Services (ITS) at SDSU, can facilitate provision of captioning for materials that are not already captioned. If you DO plan to show media as part of your instruction this semester, please provide the following information to Elizabeth Crosthwaite at video.captioning.sasc@sdsu.edu:
- Titles of the films, videos, or clips
- The URL, if it is a streaming internet video
- Names of producers and other identifiers that will help us located copies of the media a copy of your syllabus that provides viewing dates of the media
Once you have submitted your request, you will receive confirmation and specific information (e.g., anticipated date of completion, procedures for accessing the captioned version) pertaining to your request.
We will make every effort to locate this material in a captioned version, or, if needed, create a captioned version through outsourcing. Please keep in mind that the process of captioning videos can take a few days up to several weeks, depending on the type of captioning that is needed and the format of the media itself.
