WorkAbility IV - Internships
Student internships are a key component of the WorkAbility IV Program. Internships allow students to gain new skills and apply their academic knowledge in a work setting. In addition, they are a great tool for networking and obtaining field experience prior to graduation. Statistics show that students who complete internships are more marketable and are offered higher salaries. (see the SDSU Career Services salary survey)
The WorkAbility IV Internship Specialist is available to meet with students to discuss opportunities for field work and offer guidance in:
- Locating and applying for an internship
- Interviewing and preparing to complete an internship
- Meeting requirements to obtain course credit
- Disability disclosure and accommodations at the site
- Resolving problems the arise during the internship
- Incorporating the internship experience in a resume
Some Internship Programs Available to WorkAbility IV Students Include:
Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)
The WRP connects federal and private employers nationwide with highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities who desire employment. Students who apply represent all majors and range from freshmen to graduate students and alumni.
Academic Internships (for credit)
Internships that offer academic credit may be available for your program. Consult your WA IV counselor for the appropriate contact in your department
Entry Point!
Entry Point offers internship opportunities for students with disabilities in science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, and some fields of business.
Emerging Leaders
A competitive program that places college students with disabilities in summer internships and provides them with leadership development opportunities.
Pathways Programs
Offers clear paths to Federal internships for current students, as well as meaningful training and career development opportunities for recent graduates who are at the beginning of their Federal service.
