Gender and Sexual Identity

Travelers of all genders and sexual identities are encouraged to study abroad, but they may want to consider how certain aspects of a chosen program (city, country, culture, religion, etc) may impact their experience.

The world is increasingly a tolerant environment, but even today certain students may encounter less accepting attitudes, stereotypes or unwanted attention. Furthermore, many cultures may have markedly different socially acceptable behaviors and gendered roles from what students are familiar with in the United States.  

If you are planning to studying abroad, then we encourage you to review the resources here and consider how your gender and/or sexual identity may be received by those in your chosen host destination.
