Why Live on Campus? Here's Why!
Living on campus is an exciting and enriching part of your college experience. You'll find a true sense of community at your SDSU home. Aside from the obvious benefits of convenience and camaraderie, on-campus living definitely offers important academic benefits as well!
Each hall is staffed by a full-time professional Residence Hall Coordinator along with a team of student staff members. The staff, along with student leader sinvolved with Hall Council, provides fun and entertaining programs such as movie nights and carnivals. Staff also sponsor educational events that focus on topics such as:
- Economic self-sufficiency
- Diversity and pluralistic living skills
- Physical activity and healthy living
Academic Benefts
Many academic resources are also available in the residence halls. A faculty member, called a "Faculty in Residence" (FIR) lives in each hall. The FIRs provide academic support and are a great resource. In addition, 3 academic resource labs, called STAR Centers, offer academic support including tutors, peer paper reviews, and study skill seminars.
Compared to students who live off campus, those who live on campus:
- Have higher GPAs
- Take more units
- Are more likely to graduate
- Are less likely to be on academic probation
