SDSU Presidential Search Committee to Hold Open Forum (September 22, 2017)
The California State University Board of Trustees is beginning the search for a new permanent president of San Diego State University as Sally Roush, appointed in May as interim president of SDSU, serves in this capacity.
The first meeting of the Trustees’ Committee for the Selection of the President will be held in an open forum from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 25, in the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center Ballroom on the SDSU campus. The open meeting will be followed by a closed meeting at 2:45 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting in an open forum is to review the role of the committee; receive comments and input from the public and campus community; explain the search process and confidentiality; confirm the schedule of meetings; discuss preferred attributes of the next president; review the descriptions and needs of the campus and presidential position; and discuss any other business related to the search process. Roush Appointed Interim President of SDSU (May 15, 2017)
California State University (CSU) Chancellor Timothy P. White has appointed Sally Roush as interim president of San Diego State University. Roush will begin in her position on July 1, 2017, and serve in that capacity until a new president, selected by the CSU system's Board of Trustees, arrives in early summer 2018.
Longtime members of the SDSU community will be familiar with Roush, who has served in various capacities at the university for 31 years. Roush initially joined SDSU in 1982 as director of personnel services and held that position until 1994, when she was promoted to the position of senior vice president for Business and Financial Affairs.
She served as senior vice president until her retirement from the university in 2013. Roush also led the steering committee for SDSU’s strategic plan, “Building on Excellence,” which will be in its final year when Roush assumes the interim role. READ MORE
President Elliot Hirshman Ending Tenure at SDSU (March 8, 2017)
San Diego State University President Elliot Hirshman announced that he has accepted the presidency of Stevenson University in Maryland. His last day at SDSU will be June 30. Hirshman has served as the president of SDSU since 2011.
“The last six years have been the most extraordinary period of my and Jeri’s professional lives,” Hirshman said. “The opportunity to work with the dedicated and talented students, faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters of San Diego State has inspired us, and it has been a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of this great university.”
During Hirshman’s time as SDSU’s eighth president, SDSU has raised its profile as a major public research university. SDSU ranks in the top 10 for students studying abroad and for ethnic and economic diversity; Forbes, Fortune and U.S. News & World Report all rank it in the top 25 for entrepreneurship; and the university has produced 85 Fulbright student scholars in the past decade. SDSU researchers bring in $130 million annually in external research funding. READ MORE
Presidential Transition Process
The Board of Trustees of the California State University system, in partnership with the Chancellor, is responsible for the recruitment, selection and appointment of CSU campus presidents. There is a deep commitment throughout the process to the principles of consultation with campus and community representatives and diversity. The ultimate decision and responsibility for the transition of executive leadership rests with the Board. The Chancellor designates staff to support the process. READ MORE
